Troubleshooting/FAQ
The Map doesn't move/points in the wrong place
If the map is not moving or pointing inaccurately, first make sure that you haven't switched into manual mode. Additionally, check if your phone has a compass, as Sky Map relies on it to determine your orientation. You can find more information about your phone's specifications here.
Try calibrating your compass by moving it in a figure of 8 motion or following the instructions provided here. Additionally, check if there are any magnets or nearby metal objects that might interfere with the compass. You can also experiment with turning off "magnetic correction" in the settings to see if it improves accuracy.
Why is autolocation not supported for my phone?
Due to changes in Android 6 regarding permissions, autolocation may not be supported on certain phones. To enable autolocation for Sky Map, please refer to the location permission settings described here.
The Map is jittery
If you experience jittery movements on the map, it may be because your phone lacks a gyro. Some level of jitteriness is to be expected in such cases. You can try adjusting the sensor speed and damping settings in the app's configuration to reduce the issue.
Do I need an internet connection?
No, an internet connection is not required for basic functionality. However, certain features such as manually entering your location will not work without one. In those cases, you will need to use GPS coordinates or rely on the GPS functionality of your device.
Can I help test the latest features?
